The
building, newly restored and renamed The Heritage Valley Inn,
preserves the warmth and hospitality it has offered during
the past 110 years when it hosted stars of the silent film
era. Guests will find many of the comforts of home within
its historical structure; blending western comfort with modern
technology.
Lake Piru is rich in outdoor recreational activities including
exceptional fishing, camping, picnicking, boating, water-skiing,
swimming, hiking, and sailing. Lake Piru is located six miles
north of Piru and adjacent to trails and campgrounds in the
Los Padres National Forest. Also nearby is Rancho Temescal,
a 6,000-acre working ranch offering horseback riding, western
equestrian events, working cattle and guest ranch activities.
West of Piru is Fillmore; its downtown business district
is a six-block area depicting the architecture of the 1930s
and 40s. Fillmore has a Neo Classical City Hall that
sits behind the Central Park Plaza. From the park, visitors
can easily walk along the railroad promenade to shops, museums,
and the Giessinger Winery.
Visitors will find history, fine food and fun entertainment
for the whole family onboard the Fillmore & Western
Railway Company. Take a ride in vintage coaches, stately business
cars and classic "parlour" cars. Have lunch in one of the
vintage diners or solve a mystery over dinner. Enjoy a wide
assortment of wonderful activities as you roll along in one
of the many cars built in the 1920s, 30s and
40s.
One of the Fillmore's most alluring attractions, so to speak,
is the state-run Fillmore Fish Hatchery. The hatchery raises
between 750,000 and 800,000 rainbow trout each year and stocks
lakes, treams and reservoirs in four local counties.
A short drive to Elkins Ranch provides 18 holes of golf with
scenic mountain and valley views; it's considered one of the
finest public courses in the area.
