Pismo
Beach is a Pacific destination located about halfway between
Los Angeles and San Francisco on the California Central Coast
in San Luis Obispo
County. Known by beachcombers and boarders alike as having
one of California's longest and widest ribbons of sand, Pismo
Beach is a classic California getaway for recreation and retreat.
Pismo offers something for everyone
and every budget, from cliff-top resorts and award-winning
restaurants to great campgrounds and beautiful sunsets. From
Pismo
Beach, travelers are ideally positioned to take advantage
of a number of activities and attractions. The immediate area
provides visitors with camping, kayaking, surfing, fishing,
horseback riding and ATV riding right at the beach. Above
the beach, one can enjoy bi-plane and helicopter rides, or
simply go fly a kite. Pismo guests will find more than 2,000
hotel rooms and several camping areas including California
State Park sites and the heralded Pismo Coast Village.
Within
a short distance of Pismo
Beach, visitors can taste wine from the California Central
Coast appellation, play golf on challenging Pacific links,
or visit majestic Hearst Castle. The city's event calendar
is filled with year-round festivities such as the Fourth of
July Fireworks Show, Jubilee-by-the-Sea, Dixieland Jazz Festival,
Mardi Gras Jazz Festival, State Marching Band Review, and
now two new autumn events - "BUTTERFLIES by the Beach
& Blues" and "Woodies & Rods" car show.
Butterflies
and clams are two Pismo claims to fame (well, next to the
big blue body of water to the west). Each year, from late
October through February, thousands of colorful Monarch butterflies
cluster in the limbs of Eucalyptus and Monterey Pines in the
area - some say they look like yellow and orange leaves. These
tough little beauties fly from as far away as Canada to escape
the colder temperatures of the north before settling in at
Pismo Beach's Monarch Butterfly Grove.
